Living with Urinary Incontinence

Wednesday, 3rd October 2007 will forever remain very vivid in my memories. I live in Lagos(Nigeria)and in a part of the city called Abule-Egba but work at another part called Lagos Island which is usually about an hour’s drive from my house.I woke at about 5.30am to prepare for work and felt the urge to use the toilet,so I took about 30cl of water to hasten the process. In about 30minutes I was on the road driving my wife to work,but as it has become with Lagos(Nigeria)where I live; the traffic grinds slowly and today was no exception. I was in slow moving traffic for over 3hours within which I felt the strong urge to urinate and was shocked when urine dripped intermintently as I tried in vain to hold on.My trouser was wet to my discomfort.At some point my wife jokingly suggested that I use a bottle inside the car to empty myself.I eventually got the opportunity to empty my bladder fully at about 9.40am. I was so ashamed of myself and the fact that my trousers were wet.Later during the day I took in about 30cl of water and at about 3.00pm,the urge to urinate came up again and some drippings occured;I was closer home by then and rushed in to fully empty myself.However more shame was to come later in the day. I travelled to Abuja (Nigeria’s capital city) by air from Lagos, just a journey of about one hour without any urge to urinate,till I got to the lobby of the hotel I was to stay.While I was at the reception registering; the urge came and “lo and behold”; some drippings occured and my jeans trouser was wet.I tried to use my bag to cover up; but the hotel steward was too fast and picked it up to take to my room.Its unbelievable that in a day these three experiences came my way.I have never had it so bad. I have always had the urge to control myself;but I guess I need all the help in the World now to ensure that the experience of the 3rd of October doesn’t happen again.
