HPV

by: LF on Fri, Jun 08 2007

I was diagnosed with HPV about 2 months ago. I went in for a PAP Smear because I hadn’t had my period for 3 months. The PAP went pretty well, my doctor said everything looked fine, and I went on my way. A week went by and I didn’t get a call saying anything was wrong, so I just thought I would be getting the “all clear” letter in the mail.

Much to my dismay, a week and a half later I got a call from my doctor saying I have a high-risk version of HPV (meaning the type of HPV I have can cause cancer). So I went in for a culposcopy (which is kind of like a PAP but they get a magnifying glass out and take a closer look at the cervix). They took 4 biopsies from my cervix and made an appointment for me at a specialist.

I went in yesterday for him to take yet another look at it. He has decided to remove the parts of my cervix that have severe displaysia (which as he explained to me is 2 steps below cancer). I go in on the 29th for my LEEP (which means he will use a small electrode wand to cut off pieces of my cervix).

This is all new to me. It also scares me because I am going through this unemployed and without health insurance. But thankfully I have a loving fiance and great parents who are helping me.

I hope this helps someone out. Because typing all of this really helped me.
