To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Frequent tract infections in 12 year old non-verbal disabled child. My granddaughter, 12 years old, has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound. She has suffered many urinary tract infections in her lifetime. She has been in pampers from day one of her birth but has never had diaper rash which is a compliment to her parents who strive to keep her clean and dry. She cannot speak so, therefore, her parents don’t know she has another infection until they detect the distinct odor (like paper-mill smell) and darkness of her urine. She drinks alot but doesn’t particulary like the taste of water. Around age three, she had reflux surgery but still continued to have many UTIs. The diagnosis is always the same, the prescription is always the same so how can these parents and child avoid having to spend 4-5 hours at the emergency room each time she has the infection? Why couldn’t these very aware parents have access to an open ended prescription to take care of this ongoing problem. Comments
