Finally when she was about 11 months old she was refered to a pediatric uroligist. By the time she saw him her reflux was a grade 4. She went throught several test over the next 7 months. She was put on antibiotics daily, which she began to become immune to. She finally get to have surgery when she was 18 months old. The surgery lasted about 3 or 4 hours, and she was in a lot of pain when she came out. The only side effects that she had from the surgery were bladder spasm for about 2 weeks. It was very hard to see her go through the surgery and the recovery, but in the end the only thing that I would have done differently was to push to have her tested earlier. Because I didnt push for more testing in the beginning she now has damage to both her kidneys. She is now 4 years old and has had no problems since her surgery. We have to see her urologist every year to check her progress and her kidneys. I am now pregnant with another girl, and I have had ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy to check for the disorder. We have been lucky so far to not find any signs of it, and can only hope and pray it stays that way. My advice to any parents that have a child that is effected is to push the doctors for the testing. And never be afraid to ask for a second opinion!! Comments
