Continuing flank discomfort

Well, it’s been 2 1/2 weeks now and I’m getting more uncomfortable with this aching pain in my left side. Occasionally I will get the well known stabbing pain we all know as “kidney stone” pain there and on the right side as well.

I was in my PCP’s office last Wednesday with nausea, chills, and fatigue. They did a urine sample and found blood, bacteria, and protein on the dipstick test. They said it was most likely a kidney infection and placed me on Cipro (antibiotic). As of today I’m feeling worse. The discomfort is more constant so I went back to the doctor. They had the urine culture results from the lab and it didn’t show a kidney infection after all.

Today they sent me for a CT scan and suspect another stone. This will be the 5th in ten years for me, three of which I’ve passed on my own. All of my stones seem to take forever to pass, weeks it seems. So if this is a stone, I guess I may be in for another long month.

My urologist is always so non-chalant and tells me if they are in the kidney they shouldn’t be causing me pain. Maybe he’s never had a stone.

Does anyone elses stones take this long to pass?
