Kidney Stones Round 3

I hope someone has some advise as round 3 of kidney stones is coming for me.

First round was when I was 17 and went misdiagnosed as a bad back. The stones grew so large that they merged and covered the entire kidney. Finally @ age 24 and in constant daily pain in desperation I went to a chiropractor who sent me to get xrays. Within 3 days i was in the hospital for surgury.

Round 2 was in 2001 and started as a pain in the back that wouldn’t respond to advil. By the end of the day, I got worse and knew it was stones. The doc scheduled a lithotripsy, my first one and I thought it was over. I was wrong, the next day I was struck down on the floor and crawled outside because I couldn’t get to the phone. Luckily my neighbor a nurse saw me and brought me to the doctor’s office. The receptionist then said the doctor would give me another prescription for percocete. My neighbor knew that was ridiculous and drove me to the ER where they had to give me a morphine drip and fluids to pass the stone.

After that night I passed stones for nearly 6 weeks, some lasting hours anywhere from 6-18. A few lasted a full day to 2 days. The doctor gave me percocete and kept telling me to make sure I took them every 2-4 hours so the pain wouldn’t sneak up on me. If you’ve been through this you know percocete doesn’t even begin to keep the pain @ bay. What can I possibly do to get the doctor to give me something effective without seeming like some drug seeking addict? I need to keep working and can’t possibly do so with a possibly 6 week window of calling in sick because of the pain. Aside from that, the idea of being curled up in a ball on the floor @ the drop of a hat doesn’t seem like a feasible way to go about life in the upcoming weeks. The idea of morphine pills isn’t attractive, but I’d like some advise.

At this point pre-treatment the pain comes and goes but I know, soon and at any time it will hit hard. I want to hold off lithotripsy until Jan because of work schedules/concerns.
Please help soon!
Kevin
