To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download e coli I had a cystoscopy on April 8th. Two stones were removed and I didn’t need stents. That evening I developed a fever and nausea and vomiting. I reported this in the AM to my uro and was told to go to the lab and give a urine specimen and he changed my antibiotic thinking that I may have been allergic to it. I was running a higher fever and still vomiting the next day and asked to go to the ER for an IV for fluid and to get something for the nausea. I was told the doctor was in OR until noon that day and would have to wait until he arrived in the office for direction. Well, my sister who is an RN stopped in to see how I was doing and immediately took me to the ER where I was told I had e coli infection. I was admitted for IV antibiotics since I was resistent to all of the antibiotics they had me on previously. The e coli was cultured in my stones. I developed pulmonary edema while in the hospital and thought I was going to die. My hg dropped to 8 and after 2 units of blood it returned to12. I am a retired Respiratory Therapist and sometimes too much knowledge is not good. I was released from the hospital on April 19th and was put on Vantin for seven days. I am exhausted and weakened, but slowly getting my strength back. I was blessed with the best infection specialist. I’m not so sure about the urologist He did no pre op testing. He told me the e coli showed in the urine that was flushed from my bladder. Just a little too late. I still have some small stones in both kidneys and hope that they pass on their own without interferring. I’m worried that the e coli is still hiding inside of them. My infection doctor told me that I wouldn’t get as sick as they would know immediately what the problem was. Wish me luck. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy. Comments
