Never ignore true UTI symptoms after you have been diagnosed with IC I had symptoms over a holiday weekend, but hadn’t had one in two years or so, so I didn’t think it could be happening. I thought it was just my IC discomfort but then it became clear that I had an infection. Within 24 hours of first noticing the symptoms, I had a severe infection, incredible pain, and the anitibiotic prescribed was not working well. Pyridium was also not effective, as it usually is. I can actually see tissues and blood in my urine. I am concerned that after using Elmiron for the past two years in an attempt to rebuild my bladder lining, I have now caused even more damage by ignoring the symptoms. Be cautious, get a culture done even if you think its not an infection. An already delicate bladder lining cannot take the damage done by an infection.
