Dealing with IC one day at a time…

I was diagnosed with IC after a bladder scope and biopsy in 1999. Before I was referred to my urologist I had seen MANY doctors (and taken many antibiotics) who were convinced I had a UTI or gynecological problem. My syptoms were (are) frequency, urgency and pressure/pain around the pubis and near the urethra.

After being diagnosed, I started the Elmiron, Atarax and Detrol LA - with periods of DMSO instillations when I am in a severe flare. I also take supplements - Glucosamine, Quercetin and Rutin.

My life is sometimes ruled by the IC - many of us with IC cannot do our daily routines while in a flare. Depression is par for the course. It is imperative to surround yourself with caring people - and become informed! Check out the IC message boards to get support.

I believe my IC symptoms started after the birth of my 3rd child, when I needed a rectocele repair.

Even though this is a devastating illness, there are times when I am in remission and I feel normal. Hopefully the medical field will come up with more treatment options.
