My wife

by: Tim on Wed, Jun 20 2007

May of 2007 was the toughest month of life. My wife of eighteen years was diagnosed with an adrenal mass the doctors said it was very large and the possibility that it was malignant was probable. first let me say my wife diagnosed herself. she has always been a very skinny person, she quit smoking 3 years ago and put on a little weight and then more weight and then her blood pressure went up and she had to be medicated. then she developed glaucoma, it was when she was at the doctor for glaucoma that she picked up a Readers Digest (why she picked up this magazine we still do not know as this is not her usual choice) and read about Cushing Syndrome which causes all the problems she was having. She had tried diets and could not lose any weight. She was having mood swings and thought she was going crazy. She called her doctor and told him, he said the likelihood of her having this were very small but that he would test her.

Adrenalcortical Carcinoma happens to 1 in 1,700,000 people worldwide. The prognosis is very grim. She has had one surgery and we are praying that will be all. Her blood pressure is back to normal and she has lost a lot of her weight gain it looks like a long road but we will walk it together. I thank god every day that she picked up that Readers Digest.
